Evergreen perennials that look good, you can leave it alone, but if they are ugly, you can these types of cut just above the ground. They grow naturally beautiful and healthy again. If a plant is not doing it in May, he's probably dead and you can replace him better. Some groundcover can age. They grow and flourish not good anymore. The same thing applies.

Summer

Some lower varieties, such as Salvia, Nepeta, Trollius and Alchemilla, cut back after the peak of the flowering with a pleasant caused a second flowering.

As long as perennials have sufficient water and power at their disposal, they will do well. Lacking that, then they will soon show.

Lack of water can lead to a shorter flowering period, and smaller plants. Starvation smaller flowers and the plants do not grow well. They are also more susceptible to damage. During the growing season can be the fastest growing and flowering plants, such as Lavatera, some additional organic fertilizers give. The others have no help when you need (see winter) for sufficiently long-acting growth substances and a layer of compost has provided.

For example, record a layer of conifers branches on the ground, close to the roots, or disperse potting soil between the plants. Dying stems and leaves of perennials in the fall you should leave as much as possible to prevent the prince later cause damage. Only where the dead plant mass evergreens can suffocate, you should closely clipping the plants, but then compensate by spreading soil around the roots.

Winter

Evergreen plants are an asset to the garden. This is the garden in winter still green. For the winter may so parts of perennials are removed. Often the stems ugly and it is not like there all winter against it to look. Every year during the winter a layer of compost on the perennials is enough to make them from the spring months to grow and prosper. A layer of an inch or three is sufficient. You can also sprinkle with dried cow dung or bone.
